Overview:

The Independent Dispatcher role is designed for individuals who manage the day-to-day dispatching of drivers and loads. While sharing some operational similarities with the Broker role, Independent Dispatchers have specific restrictions in place to delineate their responsibilities and access levels. One of the Independent Dispatchers responsibilities will be to collect Certificate of Insurance (COI) documents for their sub haulers.

Key Differences and Restrictions Compared to the Broker Role:

Independent Dispatchers will NOT have the following capabilities:

  • Billing and Invoicing:
    • Cannot view or generate invoices as a biller. This means they will not have the permissions associated with the Biller permission group.
  • Job Management (Creation, Editing, and Stopping):
    • Cannot create, edit, or stop jobs. This restriction is due to the absence of the Poster permission group.
  • Task Proofing:
    • Independent Dispatchers will not have the ability to proof tasks.
  • Dashboard Access:
    • Cannot view the Dashboard. The current Dashboard is not yet designed to provide relevant information for this specific role.
  • Client Management:
    • Cannot view Clients. Access to the client list is restricted for this role.
  • Client Reporting:
    • Cannot view Client Reports. Reporting functionalities related to clients are not available to Independent Dispatchers.

Who Can Invite Independent Dispatchers:

The following user roles have the authority to invite new users as Independent Dispatchers to the platform:

  • ISD Support: Internal support personnel have the ability to create and invite Independent Dispatcher accounts.
  • Independent Dispatcher (within the same company): Existing Independent Dispatchers can invite new Independent Dispatchers to join their company, provided they possess the external inviter permission.

In Summary:

The Independent Dispatcher role is a focused user type designed for dispatching operations. It provides the necessary permissions to manage drivers and tasks effectively while intentionally restricting access to billing, job posting, client management, collecting Certificates of Insurance and reporting functionalities that are primarily associated with the Broker role. This distinction aims to improve role clarity and streamline workflows for all users on the platform.
